Primeiro Grande Despertamento, foi um período de alta atividade religiosa, principalmente no Reino Unido e nas colônias da América do Norte entre 1730 e 1740.

Segundo Grande Despertar, ocorrido no período compreendido nas décadas de 1790 a 1840 , foi a segunda onda de revivicação religiosa ocorrida nos Estados Unidos da América e consistia na salvação pessoal renovada, que se experimentava em reuniões de reavivamento da fé.
Dentre os principais líderes encontravam-se Charles Grandison Finney, Lyman Beecher, Barton Stone, Peter CartwrightAsahel Nettleton, e James Finley.
O movimento encorajava uma atitude evangélica ativa, que depois eclodiram na vida estadunidense através de pleitos como a reforma do sistema prisional, sufrágio feminino, movimento abolicionistae outros.

Terceiro Grande Despertamento

Terceiro Grande Despertamento foi um período de atividade religiosa na história americana do final de 1850 até 1900. Ele influenciou denominações protestantes pietistas e teve um forte senso de ativismo social. Ele acumulou força da teologia pós-milenarista that the segunda volta de Cristo deve vir após a humanidade reformar toda a terra. O Movimento do Evangelho Social ganhou sua força do Despertamento, assim como o movimento missionário mundial. Novos grupos emergiram, como o Movimento de Santidade e movimentos do Nazareno, e Ciência Cristã.

Quarto Grande Despertamento foi um despertamento religioso cristão que alguns estudiosos — mais destacadamente, o historiador economista Robert Fogel — dizem que em alguns lugares foram alcançados do Estados Unidos no final de 1960 e começo de 1970. A terminologia é controversa, pois alguns historiadores acreditam que a mudança religiosa que alcançou alguns lugares nos Estados Unidos durante esses anos não equivalem àquelas do Primeiro Grande Despertamento e Terceiro Grande Despertamento. Assim, a idéia de um Quarto Grande Despertamento em si mesmo não é geralmente aceito.
